Celestra, Goddess Of Moon & Stars. |
Celestra is usually depicted as an elven female with bone white hair, carrying a longbow, the arrows of which are made of pure moonlight. She is the sister of Charis and Llew and also one of Myddryn's daughters. She is seen as a Goddess of inspiration, magic and mystery. Her priests celebrate the magic and light granted by the moon and stars and as such travellers often see her as a guide and hunters as an aide to their craft. She is seen to have several aspects - she changes with the phases of the moon, young when the moon is new, ageing as it waxes, then growing old as it wanes, to become young again when the cycle starts again. She is also seen as the regulator of the Seasons (indeed her 3 daughters are named for the seasons in Prydein), tides etc and as her cycle is unchanging.
Woman are amongst her most faithful worshippers - she is seen as the protector of virtue to maidens, a providerof fertility to the newly wedded, a protector to mothers and a sender of swift, painless death to the old. |

Priests of Celestra must give spiritual guidance, conduct marriages and preside over last rites and funerals if asked. They are often called upon to give predictions and cast horoscopes. They are also expected to act as teachers and educate the ignorant. As such their temples are often repositories for tomes and arcane law, usual to do with magic connected with the power of the moon and stars. They have many rituals to do with the phases of the moon a priest is expected to perform at least some if not all of them.
