Amayla, Messenger of the Gods

Amayla is most often depicted as a Halfling, though he has been known to appear in both Human & Elven forms. Unlike his brother Lugh, he is known to be totally trustworthy and honest. He is the one who mediates between the Gods, and his followers strive to do the same on the mortal planes. This god's priests are also messengers. They are trained in diplomacy and are often charged with the duty of conveying important messages (whether letters, verbal messages, codes, or threats) from one person to another... usually from one ruler or nobleman to another. The priests take great pride in their role as neutral conveyers of information, and for the reputation for accuracy and honesty they enjoy. They provide the closest thing to a mail service for those educated enough to read and write and for the more low born are a source of oral news. This god is also a favorite god of heralds, spies, and bards, all of whom have to perform messenger-duties at one time or another.

As the communicator between the planes of Mortal and Immortal, Amayla is also seen as the mediator between this world and the next. He escorts souls into the Realm of Chandros where they await their next turn on the wheel when he heralds them into the world again. To this end expantact mothers make offerings to him and his priests often perform the last rites on the dying.

Although his symbol is the Silver Sceptre he is also associated with cockerals (as heralds of the dawn) and Amayla is often depicted riding a giant version of the bird.

Amayla has three major festivals which bring in (or herald) each of the seasons (Spring, Summer and Winter).

Priestly Duties

Priests of Amayla offer spiritual guidance, preside over wedding celebrations, preside over last rites and funerals if asked. Their main role is to act as heralds and messengers where ever needed. Most large towns and cities have a temple to Amayla and if a person needs to get a message somewhere quick, he can usual get it there by use of these priests. Indeed, under Imperial rule, such communication was used throughout the Isles. However, since the Empire withdrew and traveling has become more dangerous, isolated communities may not get this service for months at a time.
When on duties, Priests of Amayla must always carry scepters, staves, poles or banners/flags on a poles. When carrying out official duties, they carry no obvious weaponry, however, a scepter can be used as a mace or club and a staff or pole as a quarterstaff.
